Currently we sponsor 500 children in Zimbabwe. Without
YOUR
help they would find it very difficult to complete their education. Fees for a secondary school child this term at Beulah Heights are just under £8. The basic tuition fees are about £3.50 the other £4.50 covers books and other equipment needed to run examination courses.
To buy a full uniform would cost about £60 with
the basic essentials costing about £9

Supporting Pupils to help them complete their education Zimbabwe, in common with most African countries is struggling with a range of problems from very high unemployment (over 80%), high inflation (over 165,000%) and HIV /AIDS. 1.7 million children are now orphans (May 2008 UNICEF /Save the Children) The Charity is committed to helping orphans and other children where poverty is getting in the way of them having an education. Education is one of the most valuable commodities that we can provide that will build a sustainable and secure future for the community. The best way to get involved it to be part of the planned giving scheme, gift aided if you pay income or capital gains tax. We can only really use money that is sustainable - i.e. planned monthly giving to make commitments to sponsor children through their education. For many of the children they will need sponsorship for several years. Only if we have committed planned giving can we really help. Other fund raising is in general aimed at one off projects like supplying text books or new classrooms.

Some of the children we sponsor at St
James Primary There are 472 boys and 482 girls (954) on roll at St James Primary School (2007), currently we sponsor 100 of them. Of the 100 children over a quarter are orphans and the rest have already lost one parent. For most this is the difference between getting an education or not. When the grade 7 children go to the secondary school we will continue to fund them so they can take their GCSE ("O") level and perhaps their "A" level examinations. Some additional funding has been provided to help with resources. |
