Waymarks Education Centre
Moi’s Bridge
Kenya
The purpose of the work is so each grade/year group has its own classroom. Currently there is sharing of facilities/rooms.
The extension of the school buildings would enable the centre to increase the number of orphans and other vulnerable children it can assist.
The classroom building is modular so we can raise money to build the first then add a second and so on. We would try to fund putting the foundations for all three in at the start of the building work.

Set a fund raising target of £2000 per classroom or £6000 for the building project.
(Educational materials and equipment would/could be from separate funding depending on the success of this appeal.)
The above quote is from builders we have used at the school and who have proved very reliable. We have established email contact with
them separate from the school. They actually started work on building toilets for A2A at the school before any money had been sent out!
The purpose of the work is so each grade/year group has its own classroom. Currently there is sharing of facilities/rooms.
The extension of the school buildings would enable the centre to increase the number of orphans and other vulnerable children it can assist.
The school serves an area of the town which is locally called Kambi Suswa, an area of slum or shanty style housing with high levels of
deprivation and typically many children who are orphans.
Currently the school operates 6 days a week and provides food as well as education. The centre is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
On Sunday’s children and their “families” attend the church which oversees the centre and after the service food is provided.
There are 80 children receiving education and support at the centre on a regular basis. The extension of the school would enable more
children from the community to benefit.
Currently it is a primary school but there is a need long term to develop a secondary school there.
We are launching in January 2009 a volunteer programme at the centre and have links to other local community projects in Moi’s Bridge
that can provide meaningful work for volunteers beyond just the centre if needed. Details of the Volunteer Programme will be on the
Aid2Africa.co.uk website before the end of January 2009.

These plans are from the Ministry of Education of Kenya and give the government specification for new classrooms. | Renches Construction Company has built a toilet block for the school from A2A funding. We are more than satisfied with their work to date. | ||
How can you get involved?
There are two main ways in which you can get involved in this particular project.
Firstly you could volunteer to go out to Kenya and work at the centre, with the children and perhaps along side the builders.
For more information visit our Volunteering in Kenya pages.
The second way is to help raise the money needed to complete the work.
You could, for instance join us in our sponsored abseil in June - for more information follow this link.
If you don't fancy that then there are hundreds of ways of raising money from selling items on eBay and donating the proceeds to our charity
to car boot sales and sponsored events. We have made significant amounts by holding barbeques and charging a nominal amount to attend and running a raffle. Quiz nights are easy to organise and raise money.
You could just pop a cheque in the post made payable to Aid2Africa Kenyan appeal - if you do this and pay tax please include your name and address including post code if you want us to claim the Gift Aid as well. There is online giving opportunity through the Charities Trust or you could just sponsor Peter' abseil click this link
