Bere Primary School, Buhera

Beaulieu Primary School This small rural school exists in an old farmhouse with virtually no resources other than dedicated teachers. The toilet is no more than a hole in the ground surrounded by wood and canvas to afford some privacy. It has an asbestos roof to keep the rain out.
Pafiwa Primary School Pafiwa is in the heart of rural Mutasa District. The school, like most rural schools struggles to keep resources up to date. Aid2Africa bought them over 500 text books - you really must see the pictures! 511 new text books for Pafiwa Primary School, Mutasta, Zimbabwe 511 new text books for Pafiwa Primary School, Mutasta, Zimbabwe

At St James Primary school, 100 children who are orphans or have lost one parent are having their school fees paid each term. For most this is the difference between getting an education or not. Some additional funding is provided to help with resources. There are 472 boys and 482 girls (954) on roll at St James Primary School (Sept 2007)

Chikanga, a developing suburb of Mutare (3rd largest city in Zimbabwe) now houses 25,000 people. It does not have a single secondary school. A local church is doing something about that and we are helping. The school has taken in its first pupils January 2008.

Bere Primary School is in the Buhera area of Manicaland close to the border with Masvingo province. The school needs clean accessible water. Some pupils have to cross the River Nyazwidzl to get to the school, the problem is there is no bridge and the river has crocodiles in it! The buildings are termite damaged and in danger of collapse. We hope to start work on this project in 2008, we have already earmarked some funds for the school.

Bere Primary School, Buhera

Bere Primary School - it's not just new classrooms that's needed here!
St Gabriel, Chirarwe, a newly established secondary school. It is approximately 20km from Newengo. The school was recently established to avoid children walking distances of over 30km to and from Pafiwa which was the nearest secondary school. Construction started in 2003 and so far one classroom block has been completed. The second block is at roof level. We are told the school cannot operate at secondary site before the completion of the school block and at least two teachers houses. Currently the school is lodging at the primary school. Domborutinhira Primary School is typical of most Zimbabwean schools. It has lots of children who are victims of the HIV/AIDS devastation. Many live with grandparents or with a single parent. Some come form child headed homes. All suffer from the effects of poverty. Education is highly prized but when there is not even money for enough food the children's education loses its priority.
